The McNellys have been running the popular pub The Swan for generations and seem to be a close-knit family. What nobody knows is that this is an illusion: there's no love lost between the family members. Secrets, cruelty, and a terrible incident nobody talks about haunt the family. 

Olivia left at age twenty and has been estranged from them for two decades. Despite having built a successful life and putting time and distance between herself and her upbringing, her past still has a hold on her. 

When she returns home for her father’s funeral she meets her niece Agnes for the first time. Agnes grew up being unfavourably compared to her aunt, but Olivia is barely aware of her niece's existence. Getting to know her is like looking into a mirror and seeing her eighteen-year-old self again. It forces her to confront a past she's run away from and to help her niece avoid making the same mistakes she's made. 

In the process they find themselves, the trust they both lost, and most importantly: true belonging.
